NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Condesa, Lima artist Aurélie Beer in Plurality of Expression. The exhibition will open on January 21, 2017 and run through February 10, 2017 with an opening reception on Thursday, January 26 from 6-8 PM
Aurélie Beer, a multidisciplinary artist, linguaphile, and global traveler, was born in Belgium but moved to London to study fashion design at Middlesex University. After graduating, she pursued a fashion career in Paris and China, living in the latter for many years. In this period of her life, she trained to become a doula, assisting women before, during, and after childbirth. She was also certified as an expressive art therapist. Now living in Peru, Beer has managed to channel the diversity of her life experience into a number of mediums, predominantly working with photography and painting, but also exploring ceramics and woodwork.
Beer’s photography, which alternates between portraiture and digital collage, features women of all kinds, from real-world migrants to phantasmal characters cloaked in paint. She believes that art creates a balanced life, establishing relationships and fostering a safe community. “I’ve been traveling the world as an artist for the last fifteen years, searching for other ways of learning and living life,” Beer says. “I searched for and nurtured my heart.”
Aurélie Beer currently lives and works in Lima, Peru.
