Clip On Guitar Tuner, Get In Tune Speedily and Accurately, Anywhere, Whenever.

Twenty something years ago, when I was still playing, (Yep I am an older guy. Not as aged as Paul McCartney, many of the Eagles or all of the Stones but getting there) we did not have roadies or guitar techs so right after the 1st few numbers, possibilities are we were maybe going out of tune. Being as we played in bars most of the time the crowd never ever really noticed. Nor did we come to that.

We'd tune up just before we started, usually with a tuning fork. That wasn'twas not usually simple either in a crowded pub. Now, there were electronic tuners about but like all electronic stuff when they first are released they were pricey, so a tuning fork it was. When we got going we'd seldom stop to re-tune.

Okay so performing is one thing and it is most likely much more essential to be in tune when you happen to be playing at home and especially when you happen to be learning as a newbie or even just a new song. If you happen to be not in tune it's not going to sound correct and you won't know how well you happen to be performing.

Fortunately these days tuners aren't only low cost but really accurate and responsive.

1 of the very best I've discovered is the Strumaz clip on guitar tuner, at the moment sold on Amazon. Not only is it a really excellent basic tuner possessing built in tuning for Guitar, Bass, Violin, Ukulele and Chromatic, which will let you tune almost anything, it has extra functions that no other tuner has, at least not all in one tuner.

There is flat tuning so that you can simply tune your instrument down by up to 4 semi-tones. So if you went all the way your guitar would be tuned to C F Bb Eb G C while the tuner would still show E A D G B E, making it easy to tune down.

It also has a capo/transpose function which works in a similar way. You do not really change the tuning as such but when you put a capo on your guitar the strings won't necessarily remain perfectly in tune. Employing the transpose function you can simply correct the tuning while still seeing E A D G B E on the tuner when for example on the second fret the notes will sound as F# B E A C# F#.

Why would you want to do either of these things? Generally to get a distinct sound for one while still employing the same chord shapes.

Some bands have been known to flat tune to conserve the life of the strings, they reckon much less tension make them last longer. I am really not that confident about that one.

The flattening and capoing would generally be ways to help you position it anywhere on the instrument. Even hide it behind the head of your guitar, as the photos
show.

• The tuner works by sensing the vibration in the instrument. No microphone so that it is not interfered with by background sound. Easily tune up within the noisiest of venues.

• 4 flats tuning in instrument setting.

• Capo transpose functionality in Chromatic setting. Match the flats to the capoed fret.

• The large multi color display allows you to tune even on stage in between songs.
